The words aren’t flowing in my story this morning. Probably because my two cats keep walking in front me, obsessed with something that’s outside the window. So here’s an update on what’s been going on lately.
I just got my first sale on Google Play. Had no clue about it until I got the payment notification in my email. I don’t check that dashboard often, usually only when I’m uploading something or changing a price. Never even bothered to update the back matter in the books because I didn’t think it mattered. I never got any sales there. Well, wrong! Someone from South Africa bought my book! I didn’t get much of a royalty payment, but it’s money that I would not have had I not given the platform a chance.
In other news, I will be participating once again in my library’s local author event. I also work at the library and I’m a part of the committee, so I’ve had a lot of fun reviewing the author applications and figuring out the table placements.
Speaking of the author event, I’m planning for my own table. Last year was my first time selling books in person, and in one day alone, I finally became a 3 figure author! I believe I sold about 10 or 11 books. I brought too many books to the event though, and I still have a stash of them in my closet. I need to take inventory and perhaps purchase additional copies of some.
I need to also come up with some sort of table banner or sign. All I had last year was an acrylic sign holder. I might do something on Vista Print, but I'm still considering my options. I really just want something nice with my name on it. Maybe my tagline too. Oh, and speaking of, I changed it to sweet/steamy romance instead of sweet/spicy. I feel like “spicy” indicates something that is way hotter than what I write, and I don’t want to give readers the wrong idea.
In writing updates, I am now up to 53k words in Heat Wave. The whole story is outlined, which gives me the freedom to jump around and write different scenes without worrying too much that I’m messing up some plot line. Maybe now that my cats have calmed down (a little), I can get some words done in the story.
